The World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) has lifted all restrictions on the containment zone surrounding the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak in Brandenburg. This means that the “foot-and-mouth disease-free without vaccination” status once again applies to the entire federal territory. WOAH had already approved a request in March to declare the areas outside the mentioned zone as “free”.
The swift reinstatement of WOAH's “free” status was made possible thanks to the preparation of two comprehensive dossiers by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL), in cooperation with the affected federal states (Brandenburg and Berlin), the Friedrich Loeffler Institute (FLI), and an expert deployed by the EU.
